The Junior Board of Beginnings, Inc. is comprised of high achieving, community-minded students from grades 6 through 12 who have a strong desire to serve children in need. Schools represented include Bishop McCort, Cathedral Catholic Academy, Greater Johnstown, Westmont, Richland and Ferndale. We also have students who are home schooled and enrolled in Cyberschool. Students from across Cambria County are encouraged to consider participation on the Junior Board. Credit for voluntary service and academic letters of recommendation are often provided for these outstanding young people.
The purpose of the Junior Board is to create public awareness of the mission of Beginnings, Inc.; foster a spirit of volunteerism; learn skills necessary to manage or serve in voluntary leadership roles with non-profit organizations; and plan special events to support children and families served by Beginnings, Inc.
Through a variety of enjoyable awareness activities, Junior Board members serve as ambassadors for Beginnings, Inc. The Junior Board meets monthly to plan and execute activities including a Book Sale, Cookies with Santa, a summer family picnic and other special events.
As part of their networking activities in the community, Junior Board members have visited a neonatal intensive care unit, the American Red Cross, The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, City Hall, the police station and the Women's Help Center, as well as hosting guest speakers from local corporations, charitable and civic organizations.
